Sportsmanship isn't just about being nice to each other. It includes upholding and honoring the GAME by being inclusive, kind and respectful to each and every person involved. It's about being the best person you can be in each and every moment. Even in the hard moments when you disagree with another's decision. Respect in sport is a necessity because without coming together (referees, coaches, parents, players) soccer as we know it wouldn't exist. You wouldn't be able to have a soccer game if there were no opponents, no referees, no teammates - so for this we are thankful for each and every person out there on game day.
Here's a fantastic example that we would like to shine a light on. Check out this photo from last Sunday's U18/U19 match between the Magnolia Kingsmen and the Ballard Honey Badgers. Players, referees and coaches formed a huddle at half time to show appreciation for each other. This is a wonderful example of sportsmanship and respect, and illustrates everything we stand for here at SYSA. We are so grateful to be a part of a soccer community where THIS is how we show up for each other and treat each other.
To all of the SYSA coaches, players and parents doing a fantastic job of embodying our SYSA core values of embracing community, being inclusive, fostering enjoyment of the sport, promoting a healthy lifestyle and practicing (and teaching!) good sportsmanship - we thank you and appreciate you!
